Clarity Doesn’t Come Before Action: Why Movement Creates Momentum
You don’t need the whole plan. You need the next small step.
Welcome to another Truth Bomb from The Truth About Healing Podcast.
Does this sound like you?
“I need to figure this out before I act.”
Same. Present and accounted for.
In this Truth Bomb, Dana explains why Clarity Doesn’t Come Before Action and how overthinking often shows up when the nervous system does not feel safe taking imperfect action.
Instead of waiting until you feel completely ready, this episode invites you to try the smallest next step rule. Not the perfect plan. Not the full solution. Just the next two-minute action.

Clarity Doesn’t Come Before Action
Does this sound like you?
“I need to figure this out before I act.”
I know I do that all the time, so I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with that as well.
But here’s the truth.
You don’t feel clear, then act.
You act, and clarity follows.
Overthinking is what happens when your nervous system doesn’t feel safe taking imperfect action.
I mean, who’s a perfectionist here?
Present and accounted for.
So here’s something to try when that happens.
Use the smallest next step rule.
Not the full solution.
Not the perfect plan.
You don’t have to have the end completely figured out.
Just the next two-minute action.
Just one thing you need to do next.
Like sending a text.
Opening a document.
Say the thing, even if it’s messy.
Even if the thought isn’t completely formulated.
Just say it.
And this is how I operate.
I figure it out as I go.
Movement regulates your nervous system.
Stillness with rumination keeps you stuck.
I always use that example of having your foot on the gas pedal and the brake at the same time.
The engine is revving, but you’re not going anywhere.
So try getting some movement.
It will help unstick the overthinking so you can take that two-minute next step before you get moving.
You don’t have to have the entire thing figured out.
So try that.
Let me know how it works.
